How to Make Colored Mascara Show on Dark Lashes

The best way to make colored mascara show on dark lashes is to use a white base or primer. The white primer helps to enhance the color of your purple mascara and make it stand out more. A DIY mixture of white eyeshadow, water, and pea-sized amount of face primer can also be used if you don’t have a white base or primer.

Follow the steps below for applying purple mascara, red mascara or any other colored mascara. This method works best with dark lashes.

Here’s What You Need to Do:

Step 1 – After curling your lashes (if necessary), apply a coat of white lash primer. Continue this process until lashes appear completely white. Allow the primer to dry a bit in between coats for added volume.

Step 2 – If you don’t have a lash primer, white eyeshadow will work too! take a clean knife and scrape a bit of pigment off the top of your eyeshadow pan. Mix the loose pigment with a couple of drops of water and a pea-sized amount of face or eyeshadow primer. Add more pigment if the paste does not appear to be opaque. After mixing, apply the paste to your lashes with a clean spoolie brush.

Step 3 – Once your primed eyelashes have dried completely, apply the colored mascara of your choice! If you really want to make the color pop, apply a white or contrasting eyeshadow color all over the lid.

If you want to use a white eyelash primer, I recommend trying the Lancome Cils Booster XL Mascara Primer. This is a white base lash primer that is suitable for sensitive eyes and makes your lashes appear longer, thicker and curlier. It’s perfect for applying purple mascara or any other dark colored mascara.

How to Make Colored Mascara with Eyeshadow

Colored mascara has become more popular in recent years, but there are still more eyeshadow colors available than mascara colors. If you are having trouble finding the shade you want, eyeshadow is a great tool for making the perfect colored mascara.

Besides eyeshadow, you will either need a clear or a white mascara primer. Primers work similarly to mascara, but they are not as dark. Clear mascara will give you a more subtle color, while white will make the color appear more vibrant.

Here’s What You Need to Do:

Step 1 – Apply a layer of primer to your lashes, and before it dries, pat the eyeshadow color of your choice onto your lashes with a flat makeup brush. It is recommended that you do this before applying your base as it may cause fallout onto your cheeks.

Step 2 – If you would prefer to do your base first, you can hold a tissue under your bottom lash line to catch any extra pigment.

How to Make Brown Mascara Black

A lot of us enjoy the subtlety of brown mascara, but it’s always fun to switch things up from time to time. Brown mascara can easily be made darker with eyeshadow.

Here’s What You Need to Do:

Step 1 – Take a pan of black eyeshadow pigment and scrape a bit off of the top. Mix a couple of drops of water with the pigment to make a paste-like substance. This step will help you avoid any fallout.

Step 2 – Apply a layer of your brown mascara, then take a clean spoolie and apply the black pigment mixture you created. Let your lashes dry and repeat this step for added volume.

How to Make Blue Mascara Pop

The best way to make blue mascara pop is to use a complimentary eyeshadow color. Here are my favorite combinations:

Light Blue Mascara – Choose yellow or pink eyeshadow shades

Deep Blue Mascara – Choose pale pink, peach or pale orange eyeshadow shades

The complimentary color method also works for other mascara colors. Here is a few more combinations you can try:

Brown Mascara – Choose purple, green, blue gold or charcoal eyeshadow shades

Green Mascara – Choose gold, peach, or light purple eyeshadow shades

Grey Mascara – Choose black, purple or light brown eyeshadow shades

Purple Mascara – Choose a yellow or peach shades.

If you have dark lashes, ensure to use a white base eyelash primer to make your lashes pop even more! I’ve discussed more about this method in the section above.
