As if being a teenager wasn’t already difficult enough, you have one more problem to deal with – and that’s acne. The biggest issue with acne is that it tends to leave scars. Many people prefer to go for the laser treatment for acne scars, as it has proven to be quite effective – but depending on the severity, you might want to try out some natural treatments first.
1. Dab Lemon Juice
Acne scars can be permanent lesions – so at this point, what you’ll have to do is lessen their visibility. Considering that lemon juice is pretty much natural bleach, the spots caused by the acne will get smaller and smaller every day. Plus, considering that Vitamin C helps rebuild your skin’s collagen, lemon juice is exactly what you need in order to remove those scars.
Plus, vitamin C works with breakouts and their prevention. It works similarly to laser acne scar treatments, that calm your breakouts down, fill in the scars, and overall “bleach” your skin to look more even.
2. Apply Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is a miracle for your skin – and pretty much for everything else. Thanks to its ability to regenerate damaged tissue and to soothe skin redness, this is perfect for both acne breakouts and acne scars. It heals the actual pimple, but the scar as well.
Ideally, you may want to go with the “fresh from the leaf” gel rather than the products you buy from a shelf. Apply it twice every day, leaving it on for about half an hour – and you will soon begin to see improvement on your acne scars.
For an even better effect, you might want to mix the aloe vera gel with 2-3 drops of tea tree oil. This will further on reduce the redness.
3. Use Coconut Oil
If you thought that coconut oil should not be applied to oily acne-prone skin because it’s, well, oil, then you were wrong. Coconut oil is very rich in fatty acids and vitamin C, which help in the regeneration of the skin tissue. Not only will it prevent the breakouts, but it will also fill out the acne scars.
Coconut oil is also a very good moisturizer. If your skin is properly hydrated, then there will be fewer breakouts – and your scars won’t be as visible anymore. You can apply the coconut oil by itself, or you may mix it with some lavender oil. By applying this treatment about once or twice every day, you should be able to see quite a significant reduction in your acne scars.
4. Exfoliate with Baking Soda
Acne scars are pieces of skin tissue that have failed to heal properly. As a result, through proper exfoliation, you should be able to take off the dead skin tissue and reduce the size of your acne scars. Bear in mind that since baking soda can be rather harsh on the skin, you should not keep it on for more than two minutes.
This treatment might not get you immediate results, as you can’t apply it very often. Two times a week is generally more than plenty. By using this treatment, you will be fading the scar tissue away by every layer – meaning that in a few weeks, there won’t be any scars to show. Instead of filling in the skin layers, you will be removing them and evening out your skin.
To commence the treatment, you need to take enough baking soda and water so that you can turn it into a paste. Apply it on your acne scars, and gently exfoliate. After 2 minutes, rinse it off. Make sure that you also follow up with a moisturizer. Also, if your skin is very sensitive, you might want to avoid this treatment.
5. Heal with Turmeric
When it comes to natural treatments for acne scars, you will hear numerous people praising the power of turmeric. Thanks to its regenerative properties, the healing process is accelerated, and your skin will go back to its initial shape. You just have to be consistent with your applications.
For acne scars, you might want to mix turmeric powder with some juice squeezed from a lemon. Bear in mind that turmeric can and will stain your clothes – so, you might not want to allow the paste to spill. If you want to be on the safe side, you can wear clothes that you won’t mind getting stained. After it sat on your face for about 15 minutes, you
may wash it off.
A good alternative would be to mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder with one teaspoon of coconut oil and a tablespoon of yogurt. Apply it on the area that has been affected by the acne scars, and then allow it to dry. Once it does, wash it off your face with some lukewarm water.
Acne scars are something you want to prevent first, so you might want to avoid picking and popping your pimples. The less you touch them, the better – and sometimes, a professional acne treatment can do wonders. In the meantime, these tips might help you naturally get rid of acne scars.
