How to Do Aqua Hair Treatment at Home

by Sandy Taylor

Aqua hair treatments are mainly performed in salons. It was original promoted by Shiseido in Japan as a hair treatment method that can repair, boost and hydrate damaged hair.

If you are someone who regularly colors, styles or curls your hair, getting an aqua hair treatment at a salon is your best bet to restore your damaged hair.

The method presented below is for people who do not regularly process their hair but have dry and damaged hair that require treatment. I’ve also written a guide on how to do a hair spa at home which is something you should look into doing for maintaining your hair after the aqua hair treatment.

The best way to do an aqua hair treatment at home is to first wash your hair with an aqua intensive shampoo and honey conditioner. Rinse your hair with warm water, towel dry to a damp texture and then apply an argan oil hair mask and leave-in hair milk.

Here’s What You Need To Do:

Step 1 – Wash Your Hair With Aqua Intensive Shampoo

Wash your hair with an aqua intensive shampoo to remove impurities and buildup of products on the scalp. This is done so that the treatment works more efficiently.  An aqua intensive shampoo is a type of shampoo that removes impurities without stripping away moisture. It helps to prevent dryness and damage to your hair.

If you’re looking for an aqua intensive shampoo, try the Shiseido’s Professional The Hair Care Aqua Intensive Shampoo. This shampoo is created with Aqua Mimic Technology that deeply and fully hydrates your hair. It is infused with a clean and fresh floral green fragrance to give your hair a fresh scent. You will notice that after the hair wash, the strands of your hair will have a light and airy feel.

Step 2 – Nourish Your Hair with a Honey Conditioner

Apply a hair conditioner with honey from the root of your hair to the ends. This helps to nourish and moisturize the hair.  Studies have shown that honey can exert emollient, humectant, soothing, and conditioning effects for your hair.

How To Use: Leave the conditioner on your hair for 3 -5 mins then rinse with warm water and towel dry to a damp texture.

A good conditioner to try is the Kaolin Clay and Honey Conditioner. This conditioner is especially suitable because it contains:

  • Honey – Provides your hair with great conditioning and acts as an emollient.
  • Marshmallow Root – Helps to soothe and relief dry scalp and hair.
  • Horsetail Extract – An article by Dermatologist, Dr Raja Sivamani, explains that hairtail extracts can provide a smoothing effect for your hair.

Step 3 – Apply an Argan Oil Hair Mask

If you have highly damaged and dry hair caused by hair coloring,  applying an Argan oil hair mask can help protect your hair.  Studies have shown that argan oil can reduce the protein loss of your hair post hair dye treatment.

How To Use: Simply apply the hair mask from the roots to the ends of your hair, wait 3 – 5 minutes and then rinse with warm water. Towel dry your hair to a damp texture.

Step 4 – Nourish Your Hair with a Hair Defining Milk (Leave In Hair)

A leave-in-hair defining hair milk can help you hair lock in moisture and provide continuous protection for your hair throughout the day.  It can also help hydrate, smooth and defrizz your hair.

How To Use:  Add a small amount to your palm and rub you hands together. Apply a even amount of the product from the roots to tip of your hair. Repeat this step until you are satisfied with the coverage on you hair. Focus on areas that require deep hydration.

A good hair milk for this treatment is the John Masters Organics Hair Milk with Rose & Apricot.  The main ingredients are:

  • Organic Rose Flower Water – Helps to soften and nourish hair
  • Apricot Oil – Contains essential fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E
  • Cupaucu Butter – An antioxidant that helps protect you hair against pollution

This hair milk is silicone and cruelty free.
